We manufacture the roller shutter doors we install, which is why a Germiston order gets built to the opening instead of trimmed to fit one. Very little here is standard. Wadeville was built for heavy engineering, Meadowdale for distribution, and a great deal of the older industrial ground was built around rail sidings with openings sized to whatever came off the wagons.
Roller shutter doors manufactured for Germiston sites
Curtain, guides, barrel, bottom rail and drive are specified together, from the opening size and the duty the door has to carry. Nothing is decided by what happened to be in stock.
- Curtain gauge and profile chosen for span, duty and the conditions at the opening.
- Guide depth set so a knocked curtain stays in its channel.
- Barrel and shaft sized on deflection across the actual span.
- Drive matched to the duty, from manual chain to three-phase tube and side motors.
Doors for the Wadeville heavy industrial belt
Wadeville carries steel, foundry, forge and heavy engineering work, and that changes what a door has to survive. Radiant heat from a furnace or a forge bay distorts a light curtain and dries out bearings and seals far faster than anyone expects. On those openings we specify heavier gauge, heat-tolerant components and a guide arrangement that allows for expansion, and we ask what is running inside the building before we quote.
Doors on rail-served and container buildings
Germiston is the biggest rail junction on the continent, and a lot of the industrial stock here was built to be served by siding rather than by road. Those openings are tall, wide, and often positioned where a wagon or a container handler has to pass through them. We survey the clearance the vehicles actually need, not the clearance on the drawing, because a door that fouls a reach stacker is a door that gets destroyed in its first month.
Doors for high-security premises
Germiston has precious metals and high-value processing on its ground, and doors on those sites form part of a security envelope rather than a weather barrier. Specification there covers slat gauge, locking, guide depth, anti-lift and how the assembly is anchored, and the work is done under the site’s own vetting and escort procedures.
Materials and finishes
Galvanised steel is the working default. Aluminium, perforated and transparent curtains are built for the retail frontages at Meadowdale Mall, Bedford Centre, Golden Walk and the Germiston CBD trading streets, where the window has to keep working after closing.
Measuring and manufacturing lead times
We measure on site. A drawing measurement is a starting point, not a manufacturing instruction. Standard galvanised doors run two to three weeks from approved measurements; fire-rated units, heat-duty specials and insulated curtains run longer, and we say so before you commit.
Getting a manufacturing quote in Germiston
Send the opening width and height, tell us what the door has to do, how often it runs and what conditions it works in. Manufacture, delivery and installation are quoted as separate lines.
Common questions
About roller shutter door manufacturing
Roughly eight metres wide, depending on the slat gauge and the drive selected. Height is generally limited by the building rather than the door. Unusual openings are normal work for us — the door is built to your measured opening, not cut down from a stock size.
Yes. Powder coating is available to any RAL colour, and we regularly match centre management or corporate specifications. Galvanised is the default where the opening faces weather, salt air or washdown, because the zinc is bonded to the steel rather than sprayed over it.
Yes, we manufacture for trade as well as supplying and installing direct. Tell us the opening dimensions, slat specification and drive requirement and we will quote on manufacture only.
Two to three weeks from accepted quote for a standard industrial or domestic door, with survey and manufacture taking most of that. Fire-rated assemblies and unusual sizes take longer because components are brought in.
